ROOTS
Anchormix is the creation of Tim Andren - a long time DJ and producer. Andren originally hails from England, but calls southern California home.
Upon moving to the states, Andren was immediately drawn to the sounds of early hip-hop and electro coming from local radio stalwart 1580 AM KDAY. After years of following the genre as well as many other genres (including house, freestyle and alt rock) he took a trip back to his native England where he was taken aback by the new sound of breakbeat coming out in the early 90's. It must have been 2BadMice's 'Bombscare' that really changed everything for Andren.
Andren came back to the states, arms full of mixtapes from all of the hardcore raves supplied to him by his cousin. He immediately took to DJing and his relationships with fellow university students Scott Penttila and Jabari Mayes saw them form a crew called Circle DJs.
Andren and Scott Penttila (aka Scott Allen) formed a DJ partnership based on their shared identity in breakbeat and house at the time. They began to rock mixtapes that went on to become featured in URB magazine, among others. Their seminal 'Introfusion' mixtape is still in demand to this day. DJ Simply Jeff brought the duo into his Dr. Freeclouds record store crew and as Andren and Penttila began to produce music at this time, they eventually were signed to Jeff's 'Orbit Transmission' label.
The release of the Introfusion EP under the production name 'Neosoul' was an immediate success with the track titled 'Spirit in Dub' receiving play all over the U.S. This was followed up with a remix for TwentyTwelve and the follow-up release of 'For the Chosen Few' which was given top reviews stateside by URB magazine as well as in the U.K. in Mixer magazine. At this time Neosoul was given 'Next 100' status in URB magazine for their accomplishments to date.
ANCHORMIX
In 2004-5, the duo spent a lot of time in the studio doing what they love, with the focus on coming up with a new sound. Longtime friend Brian Turner (MC Omnibus) was present for these sessions and naturally began to insert himself into the creative fold with him dexterous lyrical talents.
Andren began a blog that focused on his love for many styles of music including breakbeat, drum n bass and reggae/dub. Anchormix was born in mid 2005 and quickly became a stable for global DJ mixsets.
The Anchormix sound was near boiling point in the studio and in late '05 the trio began to record live DJ/MC sessions that were streamed all over the world. These mixes can be found in the 'MUSIC' section of the site. To date, the Anchormix crew has performed this turntable/CDJ/MC setup live to audiences all over California. Also, Andren and Penttila continue to produce and spin live performances both on two and four-turntable setups.
Andren is now focusing on producing and DJing in the styles of drum n bass, reggae/dub and hip-hop.
